Subject: Polmeth Summer Meeting Final Instructions Reply-To: jgill@ucdavis.edu Polmeth Attendees: Apologies for the impersonal mass mailing, but this is the most efficient way to reach everybody at once. This is the last mailing before you all travel to Davis and it is my last opportunity to remind you about some important details. I'll enumerate these for convenience. 1. If you haven't made your local travel arrangements, you should do so as soon as possible. It is your responsibility to get to campus. We have detailed alternatives on the conference webpage: http://polmeth2006.ucdavis.edu/ There you can also find maps to the Tercero Dormitory check-in and the nearby Leach dorms with detailed instructions whether you are driving or taking other transportation. Dorm check-in starts at 4:00 PM. The webpage also has hotel information and links for those staying in one of these. Davis isn't exactly big or complicated, so I do not predict problems in this regard. 2. If you are arriving Wednesday afternoon or evening, you are on your own for dinner. The conference website also has links for Davis restaurants and bars. The city is very safe and very walkable, so you may also prefer to explore on your own. 3. We will start at 9:00 AM in the University Club on Thursday as indicated on the program. There will be UC-Davis graduate students lurking at each of the hotels and the dorms to walk people over to the University Club. The webpage has links to maps as well, which you may want to print out. 4. If you are driving to campus on Thursday morning, go to Lot 5 (on the campus map) and there will be a UC-Davis graduate student with parking passes. This link gives a campus map: http://www.cevs.ucdavis.edu/map/ which has the lot marked as "VP 5". 5. Davis will be warm: http://www.calclim.dri.edu/cgi-bin/cliMAIN.pl?ca2294 and dress at the meeting is always extremely casual (evidence: http://jackman.stanford.edu/pictures/PolMeth2005Web/BeckThump.mov). So pack accordingly. 6. Finally, it's best to print out this email and the webpage so that you have access to information en-route including phone contacts. Let us know as soon as possible if problems arise. We're looking forward to the meeting and seeing all of you in Davis. -Jeff
